Paddling at Fladbury, Pershore, Worcestershire

Fladbury, near Pershore, Worcestershire is a quiet village on the edge of the River Avon.

It's a perfect place for a paddling trip - whether in kayaks, in canoes or on SUPs.

An ideal access point is at the Mill Bank car park (W3W) near Cropthrone. It does have height restrictions so check before driving in with large roof racks on!

The river is reached from the end of the car park. There are several picnic benches for your after paddle snacks.

Going upstream, a gentle paddle takes you to Fladbury Mill and the weir (W3W). It's a pleasant spot for a picnic especially in the summer.

The weir is mainly a sloped weir and can be run at certain river levels. Get out on the island and put in again at the top of the weir. As always, inspect the weir first and if in doubt - miss it out!

From the weir is a short loop (W3W) which can be fun at medium water levels. There are a couple of low bridges so wear a helmet!

You can paddle up to the lock from a river channel (W3W). The lower lock gate is often open so you can paddle slightly in to the lock. Locks can be dangerous so always take care.

Paddling downstream takes you passed the villages of Cropthorne and Wyre Piddle (I know!) and further on to Pershore.

It's a very scenic paddle and offers plenty of opportunity for wildlife spotting including ducks, geese and swans.

Weather permitting, it can be made a paddling journey by leaving a car at the car park just outside Pershore (W3W).

This are a couple of weirs (W3W and W3W) that can be portaged or inspected and run at suitable water levels. You can inspect these from the bank as you approach.

The paddling trip is approximately 8.5km (5 miles) and would take between 3 and 4 hours.

Have fun!
